Our Areas of Focus

DSHF plans to provide basic school supplies for each of the approximately three hundred K-6 village students. Teaching resources and classroom supplies such as maps, calendars, wall charts and flash cards are also needed. Continuing assessments of other needs are an ongoing process.

1. SCHOOL SUPPLIES AND TEACHING AIDS

DSHF plans to provide basic school supplies for each of the approximately three hundred K-6 village students. Teaching resources and classroom supplies such as maps, calendars, wall charts and flash cards are also needed. Continuing assessments of other needs are an ongoing process.

2. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

We are committed to funding approximately four students each year to allow them to continue their education past the sixth grade. This also requires a great commitment from the students since they will have to relocate to a nearby village many miles away. The first scholarships were awarded for the 2005-2006 school year.

3. HUMANITARIAN AID

DSHF will provide funding for emergencies, disaster relief and longterm infrastructure improvements for the village. Procurement and delivery of tools and spare parts to maintain the communal water pump and corn mill are goals in this area of aid as well as providing needed hand tools for farming and construction. Water purification and sanitation improvements are long-term goals.

4. COMMUNITY PRESENTATIONS

Members of DSHF are glad to share their experience with groups through out the community. Youth and children, as well as adults, enjoy learning about the culture, food, and the living environment in Diorbivol, Senegal. If you are interested in more information about the presentations or would like to schedule one, please contact us.

5. FUNDING

DSHF has various ways of funding our projects. Among them are Burritos To-Go, wristband sales, school and church coin drives, grant applications, and donations. Many committee members and volunteers help make these activities possible.
